Intellectual Property from CAST

CAST Inc is the largest independent supplier of IP cores and has been represented by Saros for over 10 years.  Unencumbered by providing HDL tools, CAST supply high quality, pre-verified soft core IP developed by themselves or their technical partners.  CAST maintain an exceptional business model where their core experience is in PCI and they in turn represent key technical leaders in other areas.

In a decade of business, CAST have supplied IP into 100s of projects.  The 8051 processor itself is in over 100 ASICs around the world.  CAST's success can be put down to top-quality pre- and post-sales support, design flexibility and the shipping of high-quality code.  CAST can also, at its discretion, make modifications to the cores to meet individual requirements and/or make suggestions on how to improve a customer's development.

CAST Licencing

CAST's cores are available either as fully synthesisable RTL (VHDL or Verilog) code for ASIC and FPGA projects or as EDIF netlists for a particular FPGA family.  All cores are sold for use in a single project and no royalty payments need be made to CAST.  One exception to this is the CAN core for which CAST collect royalties on behalf of Bosch GmBH.  Royalties are payable, however, to the relevant licencors for the High-speed I2C (version 2.1), FireWire 1394a, MPEG4, h.264 and AES-OCB cores.
